UL 508 covers industrial control equipment — contactors, motor starters, overload relays, control transformers. UL 489 covers molded-case circuit breakers specifically. A UL 508A control panel must use components that are either UL 508 listed or UL Recognized. Circuit breakers inside a panel must be UL 489 listed. Generally no. CE marking is the EU's conformity declaration and is not recognized by US electrical inspectors or the NEC (National Electrical Code). Most US jurisdictions and electrical inspectors require UL listing for switchgear and control components. Some exceptions exist — confirm with your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) for your specific project. UL listing is not a US Customs (CBP) import requirement — you can import non-UL electrical products.
